چکیده
Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteremia associated with a Tesio hemodialysis catheter To the Editor: Catheter-associated bacteremia is a serious complication of temporary hemodialysis vascular access. Bacteremia is the second leading cause of death in hemodialysis patients. Infectious episodes are also the leading cause for untimely catheter removal and for morbidity in dialysis patients. In a study of 988 dialysis patients, the relative risk for bacteremia was increased more than 7-fold in patients with catheters than in those with arteriovenous fistulas. Gram-positive cocci cause most hemodialysis catheter-related bacteremias. Klebsiella pneumoniae associated with a Tesio hemodialysis catheter is a rare cause of hemodialysisassociated bacteremia.

Discrepancy between effects of carbapenems and flomoxef in treating nosocomial hemodialysis access-related bacteremia secondary to extended spectrum beta-lactamase producing klebsiella pneumoniae in patients on maintenance hemodialysis
BACKGROUND Hemodialysis (HD) patients are susceptible to extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing bacterial infections. Because the optimal treatment and clinical significance of ESBL-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (ESBL-Kp) HD access-related bacteremia remain unclear, we conducted this retrospective study to determine the clinical outcomes of patients treated with either flomoxef or ...

BACKGROUND Extended spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing bacteria have become recognized as a problem in South America. The aim of this study was to evaluate risk factors and mortality rate in bacteremia caused by ESBL-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae in a Brazilian hospital. METHODS A three-year retrospective cohort study with 104 cases of K. pneumoniae bacteremia (61 ESBL and 43 non-ESBL). ...
متن کاملConcentrated Sodium Citrate (23%) for Catheter Lock.
For chronic central venous dialysis catheters, the standard method for maintaining catheter patency between treatments is to instill (lock) catheters with 5000 - 10 000 units of heparin in each lumen. Sodium citrate (citrate) is an anticoagulant with intrinsic antibacterial activity (at 20% concentration or higher). Citrate has only transient anticoagulant effects if accidentally infused to the...
متن کاملMicroorganisms associated with access-associated bacteremia in hemodialysis outpatients in Saudi Arabia
Results Out of 198 positive blood cultures recorded during the study, 174 (88%) were access-associated bacteremia. The majority (89%) of these bacteremias were cause by a single organism. Out of the 190 organism identified 51.6% gramnegatives, 39.5% gram-positives, 8.5% skin contaminants, and 0.5% fungi. There was no significant difference of the organism distribution between those with cathete...
متن کاملMetabolic Response to Klebsiella pneumoniae Infection in an Experimental Rat Model
Bacteremia, the presence of viable bacteria in the blood stream, is often associated with several clinical conditions. Bacteremia can lead to multiple organ failure if managed incorrectly, which makes providing suitable nutritional support vital for reducing bacteremia-associated mortality. In order to provide such information, we investigated the metabolic consequences of a Klebsiella pneumoni...
